![]() ![]() What little Spanish I use today comes from menus. In high school and college, I studied French. But I never learned the key words or phrases, nor learned how to put together sentences. I still wish I could speak Spanish in the bodegas of Brooklyn. I used to write down pronunciation guides to Spanish curse words, provided by my friends, so I could practice them. ![]() Half the kids in my elementary school, P.S. I was raised on the Upper West Side of Manhattan at a time when the neighborhood was a mix of Jewish, Spanish, and African-American cultures. Technically, I should know a lot of Spanish. To prepare for the trip, I studied the language using Rosetta Stone and am happy to report that food is a recurring theme. Specifically, I'll be in Barcelona (no time for Rioja, sadly). I leave for Spain today: the culinary capital of the world.
